MBA 624: Forensic Auditing
Overview
This course systematically approaches fraud detection and deterrence concepts relative to forensics accounting. It provides an overview of the field of Fraud Examination. It addresses what fraud is, as well as how it is committed, detected, and deterred. It begins with an explanation of fraud examination methodology, followed by detailed examination of the most prevalent fraud schemes used by employees, owners, managers, and executives. The course is based on the three main categories of occupational fraud and abuse (i.e., asset misappropriation, corruption, and fraudulent statements).
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Given forensics accounting-related information, identify and discuss fraud examinations as differentiated from auditing, including concepts and techniques for detecting and preventing skimming.
- Given forensics accounting-related information, demonstrate mastery of fundamental fraud detection and prevention techniques as related to cash larceny and billing schemes.
- Given forensics accounting-related information, demonstrate mastery of fundamental fraud detection and prevention techniques as related to check tampering and payroll schemes.
- Given forensics accounting-related information, apply fraud detection and prevention techniques to expense reimbursement schemes and register disbursement schemes.
- Given forensics accounting-related information, demonstrate mastery of fundamentals of fraud detection and prevention relative to non-cash assets and corruption.
- Given forensics accounting-related information, apply fraud detection and prevention concepts and techniques to accounting principles and fraud.
- Given forensics accounting-related information, summarize and evaluate fraudulent financial statement schemes using fraud detection and prevention concepts and techniques such as financial statement analysis.
- Given forensics accounting-related information, summarize and apply fraud detection and prevention concepts and techniques relative to interviewing witnesses (e.g., auditing process) and occupational fraud and abuse (e.g., need for corporate governance).
