MBA 504: Financial Management

Overview

In this course, you develop a working knowledge of the current theories, issues, and controversies involved with financial management. You learn the tools and skills that financial managers bring to bear in effective decision making. Topics include budgeting, cash management, credit administration, investment analysis, borrowing funds, and financial forecasting.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Read and explain the importance of corporate performance objectives.
  • Read and explain the significance of financial statements in relation to a company's financial condition.
  • Understand how the "time value of money" concept is used in financial decision making.
  • Value a corporation's major financial instruments.
  • Explain the significance of such concepts as short-term assets and liabilities, working capital policies, and management of cash and receivables.
  • Evaluate long-term investments under conditions of certainty and uncertainty.
  • Be able to use the Capital Asset Pricing Model.

  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Textbook comes with Financelab. It is beneficial but not required; students can purchased separately off the publisher website.
