BBA 310: Management

Estimated Hours Per Week: 7

Overview

BBA 310 teaches management by focusing on the fundamental functions and tasks that comprise the manager's job in organizations today. Managers perform five primary functions: As decision makers and planners, managers make multiple decisions each day that affect all aspects of the group they manage, and they develop and execute plans that move their group forward and achieve challenging objectives. As organizers, managers build an organizational structure for their group that enables employees to effectively perform their jobs and work with other units in the organization. As controllers, managers develop control systems to ensure that actual outcomes achieve stated objectives. As leaders, managers influence and motivate individuals and teams to perform effectively over the long-term. And as innovators, they lead ongoing change in organizations, working to ensure that the organization is continually learning and changing with the demands of its environment.

In addition to these functions, the course addresses the organization's environment (its industry and beyond), the challenges of building and maintaining an ethically and socially responsible organization and the tasks and issues involved in expanding a business into global markets.
